Every person who comes to Northlands Rescue Mission is experiencing death in one form or another—guilt, loneliness, self-loathing, despair. And they long for a new beginning. But many are unaware it's even possible. You see, they don't know Jesus Christ . . . or they shut Him out of their hearts a long time ago.
That's why there isn't a more meaningful message for our residents and guests than the one we share at Easter—and do our best to demonstrate all year long:
Through Christ's death and resurrection, they are forgiven . . . they will never be alone . . . and with His power, their lives can be victorious.
If you asked our residents to choose one word that sums up everything we do here at the Mission, they might, in fact, say "resurrection." Because the purpose of all of our programs and services is to restore lives to their full potentials.
For people like Doug, that means overcoming unhealthy habits and destructive behaviors and becoming a productive member of society. We helped Doug with life skills, money management and setting goals for rebuilding his life one step at a time.
For other homeless men and women, resurrection may be found through assistance with the daily necessities of life. After Linda lost her full-time job, she pounded the pavement and soon found part-time work. But it didn't pay enough for her to keep up with her mortgage, and she lost her home, too. She was embarrassed to ask for help, but "I had no options left," she told us when she came to Northlands Rescue Mission. We provided Linda with a safe place to stay and healthy meals while she continued to look for a job that would allow her to live on her own once again.
While Christ's grace is the source of each life transformation here at Northlands Rescue Mission, financial support from our community provides the tools for permanent change:
- nutritious food, comfortable shelter and clean clothing
- biblical education, lay counseling and fellowship
- practical training in marketable job skills and more
—all creating opportunities for our guests and residents to rebuild stable, independent and purpose-driven lives.
Your gift today—of whatever amount you feel called to share—will help others who desperately need life's basic necessities and opportunities to get back on their feet and to experience the power of His love and forgiveness. Thank you for helping Northlands Rescue Mission address poverty and despair throughout the 21 counties we serve in North Dakota and Minnesota.
