Ways to Share by Sponsoring a Donation Drive
Every year, thousands of men, women and children come here in desperate need of life’s basic necessities and for help starting their lives anew. With so many to care for, we’re in constant need of basic supplies, from food to clothing to cleaning products. You, your school, church, business, civic organization or youth group can help the hungry and homeless in North Dakota and Minnesota by sponsoring one of the donations drives listed below:

In December, join with Payless Shoesource at 2851 32nd Avenue S. to provide shoes for those who need them most—homeless men and women! Your donation will be used to provide gift cards our homeless guests can use to purchase warm winter shoes. Click here for details.

Fill a large Rubbermaid lidded tub with items from our wish list: razors, shampoo, deodorant, shower gel, brushes or combs, socks stamps, phone cards, gift cards. Please bring the tub to 420 Division Avenue anytime before Christmas. We’ll wrap the items so all of our guests have special packages to open, and any extras will be distributed to homeless men and women throughout the year. Residents then use the tubs for storage and moving. Click here to download our flier and share with your friends and family.

Help provide the homeless with warm clothing by collecting new sweat suits, coats, socks, hats, gloves, scarves and other winter gear. We also appreciate new sleeping bags and blankets for our dormitory.

Comfort those who are suffering from illness by collecting over-the-counter, non-alcoholic pain relievers, cold and flu medications, Benadryl, cough drops, sinus medication, antacids, foot powders and creams.

Give the homeless much-needed relief from the summer heat by collecting items like sunscreen, bottled water, juice, fresh fruits and vegetables, and insect repellent.

Join us in spreading the Good News of Jesus Christ by collecting New Living Translation Bibles or donating funds toward their purchase.

Bless the poor and homeless with Christmas gifts of their very own, like a warm sweater, an alarm clock or personal care items. Your group can bring unwrapped, new gifts for our residents to the Mission before Dec. 20.

Use your creativity to come up with a drive that suits your group. Perhaps you can challenge another Sunday school class or school group to see who can raise the most money for the Mission, with the losers throwing an ice cream party for the winners. Or, offer a jeans day at work in exchange for a $5 donation to benefit the Mission.

Be a Cool Kid Who Cares!
Kids can make a huge difference in the battle against poverty and homelessness and discover firsthand what a blessing it is to help those in need. Here are a few fun drives specifically geared toward children age 15 and younger:

Bless the homeless with shoeboxes filled with items like razors, shampoo, deodorant, shower gel, brushes or combs, socks, stamps, phone cards and gift cards.

We know lives can only be changed through the Word of God. So help us collect men’s and women’s Christian devotionals and journals to distribute to our homeless guests.

Collect staples such as rice, sugar, cans of fruit and vegetables, pasta, tomato sauce and coffee. Food from these drives will be used to serve meals in our dining hall and to fill food boxes for families in need.

The Mission is always in need of bleach, dish soap, mops and scrub brushes. We also need personal hygiene items for our guests, such as shampoo, liquid hand soap, pillows and bath towels.

Every day we offer our guests the perfect blend: a cup of hot coffee and hope for a new life. Help the Mission keep the coffee brewing 365 days a year by donating large cans of regular and decaf coffee.

In-Kind Donations
We can use all kinds of in-kind donations at the Mission. Does your company’s sales and marketing department have an overabundance of promotional golf shirts that have the old logo on them? Does your retail store have to clear out unsold merchandise to make room for new inventory? Does your foodservice establishment want a place to donate unused food? Does your hotel want a place to donate sample sized personal care products, or old sheets and towels?
You’d be amazed by the array of in-kind donations we can use in our program, to offer to low-income neighbors or to make available to the homeless and poor who “shop” in our Rescued Treasures store. To discover what type of in-kind donations we can use, please call Deb at (701) 772-6609, ext. 206 or e-mail today.
When you give, please remember to:
- Bring new or clean, gently used items. Please don’t give torn, stained or broken items that will cost the Mission money in disposal expenses.
- Drop off in-kind donations at Northlands Rescue Mission, 420 Division Avenue, Grand Forks, Monday–Friday, 8 a.m.–5 p.m.
