One Foot in Front of the Other
Colleen came to Grand Forks hoping to start her life anew. But shortly after arriving here, she fell and broke her foot. With no money and no place to go, she turned to Northlands Rescue Mission.
It had been years since Colleen felt welcomed and loved. Her addiction to alcohol had driven her children and family away, and she’d suffered abuse at the hands of her husband. She finally garnered the courage to leave her violent husband and fled to a shelter, where she overcame her alcoholism. Soon she was ready to start living a healthy, stable life and came to the Mission for help getting back on her feet. At Northlands Rescue Mission, we helped her on her way. Here, Colleen found nutritious meals, safe shelter and so much more. When her broken foot heals, we will help Colleen find work and housing. “People who work here really care, Colleen says. “They know each person who comes here by name, and that makes you feel like you’re worth something. When you have nothing, just having someone who remembers your name means a lot.
